This town has nothing to see with Rangoon, it is a provincial small city where life is like fixed into time… If you go to Thakhilek, you will surely not regret it for you will have a cultural great experience and won’t meet many other western tourists…

  Enjoy this cultural clash and discover local markets, Begging Buddhist monks wearing their traditional red robes, local peasants selling their goods, fortune tellers, betel leaves sellers, ethnic minorities in traditional clothes, Shan villages, cars from another time, students going to school with their green sarong, etc…

  During 2 to 3 hours you will feel as you are at the antipodes of modernity, in a city where inhabitants look so innocent, so pure, not yet spoiled by wealth and consumption.
